This major provides excellent preparation for students who plan to pursue seminary or graduate studies in Bible, theology, Church history and related fields. Theology is the study of God while biblical studies is the study of the Bible itself. When you use the lens of biblical studies, you will study the Bible book by book. Theology takes a more topical approach. It divides the Bible into common themes or categories to better understand the overall message.
As a biblical and theological studies major, you’ll utilize in-depth Bible study, theological exploration, and the history of the church to deepen your understanding and practice of faith. You’ll acquire critical thinking skills and see the real-life implications of what you learn. Biblical theology focuses on the teachings of the individual authors and books of the Bible and places each teaching in the Scriptures’ historical development. It is a presentation of the Old and New Testament writers’ theological teachings within their historical setting. Biblical theology attempts to understand the importance of all portions of Scripture and their contributions to the theological message of the Bible (yes, even genealogies and the book of Leviticus). Moreover, it attempts to understand how all portions of Scripture contribute to the redemptive plan of God in Christ.
